Hello!
My name is Allison Jegla, and I am entering my second semester as a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania. I grew up in a rural farming community in Michigan, where I attended Pewamo-Westphalia High School.
My relationship with the Joyce Ivy Foundation was established in 2010, when I learned that I would be able to attend a summer program at Brown University at virtually no cost to my family. During my summer experience, I was pushed academically and socially as I got my first taste of life as a college student. Although it sounds cliché, attending the summer program at Brown changed the trajectory of my life dramatically. I am confident that I would not be where I am today if not for the financial assistance and general support provided to me by the Joyce Ivy Foundation.
By the time my senior year of high school rolled around, I had completed several campus visits and had spent many hours comparing my options for college. Confident that the University of Pennsylvania was the school for me, I applied under the Early Decision policy and was admitted to the Class of 2016 in December 2011.
After living in Philadelphia for approximately four months, I couldn’t be happier with my experience thus far. Now that I have successfully made the transition from high school senior to college freshman, I believe that I have a clearer understanding of the admissions process and the elements that add up to a successful college match. Through my contribution to this blog, I hope to share stories from my college experience as it unfolds and shed some light on the unique aspects of an Ivy League education.
