January student checklists

The Choice Blog (of the New York Times) has two recent posts with suggestions for January college checklists for high school students. They plant some good ideas and present solid advice.

You'll notice that the last suggestion on the January list for juniors is "Collect and Complete Summer Applications." We agree! Live on a college campus, meet other students from all over the world, delve in to a topic that you love (or think you might be interested in learning more about), practice being independent, demonstrate a willingness to stretch, explore a new city, attend on campus admissions and financial aid sessions. There are many compelling reasons to participate in a summer academic program (including that it is fun.) Institutional financial aid, and support from programs such as our Summer Scholars program, can help make it financially feasible.
