Rosa Parks' 100th Birthday

Many are celebrating the 100th birthday of Rosa Parks today. The Henry Ford Museum in Michigan – home of the Rosa Parks bus – is hosting a series of events and speakers. Visits to the Henry Ford Museum were a frequent part of my childhood growing up in Michigan. It offered so many opportunities to touch history – the Rosa Parks bus, the JFK vehicle, various models of Ford cars, hands-on examples of assembly lines, innovations from throughout the decades. Moments to touch history, or come very close to an event or person through the marking of an anniversary or birthday, seem to hold our rapt attention, as they should. Today, I'm thinking of Rosa Parks, bold moments of taking a stand – and quiet moments of firmly holding onto what feels right – and the powerful influence of women.
