Valerie Brader is a graduate of Harvard College, the University of Oxford, the Georgetown University Law Center, and is a Rhodes Scholar. Ms. Brader was previously a partner at Bodman PLC, practicing environmental and corporate law. She also worked as a law clerk for the Hon. John Feikens of the Eastern District of Michigan, as an environmental consultant to the EPA and Department of Defense, and for Governor Phil Batt (R-Idaho) on environmental and natural resource issues. Ms. Brader was the youngest person in the country to be selected to assist a federal court under the “Special Master” rule. She is the inaugural recipient of the Harvard College Women’s Leadership Award, and has been honored by Crain’s Detroit Business as one of the “40 under 40” in Metro Detroit. Michigan Lawyer’s Weekly also selected her as a “rising star.”
Today, Governor Snyder signed Executive Order 2015-10 that establishes the Michigan Agency for Energy, and he announced that he intends Ms. Brader to lead the new agency. In this capacity, Ms. Brader will serve as chief adviser to the Governor and the directors of other state agencies regarding the development of energy policies and programs.
