We are proud to introduce the 2015 Summer Scholars! They are quite an impressive group.
81 Summer Scholars (The largest group to date.)
10th Cohort of Joyce Ivy Summer Scholars (Celebrating a milestone!)
They hail from all 7 Joyce Ivy states of Michigan, Ohio, Nebraska, Missouri, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. (This is the first time that we have had all seven states represented in one cohort.)
71 different high schools represented
55% have a GPA of 4.0 (or higher)
Of those who come from schools that rank:
96% rank in the top 10% of their class
51% rank first or second
48% self-identify as students of color
48% are receiving the highest level of need-based scholarship
26% will be first-generation in their family to attend a four-year college
They'll spend the summer at Barnard, Brown, Cornell, Emory, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, MIT, Smith, Stanford, Wash U. St. Louis, and Yale.
3 students are jointly named Minds Matter Cleveland & Joyce Ivy Foundation Scholars.
3 students are jointly named Minds Matter Twin Cities & Joyce Ivy Foundation Scholars. (New partnership this year.)
4 Scholars are the 2015 recipients of the Frank Minolli Engineering and Science Award. (A record number; more details to share next week.)
1 Scholar has been selected as the 2015 Mary Vandewiele Award recipient. (More news coming next week.)
1 Scholar has been selected by alumnae to receive the Alumnae Supported Scholarship through a record-breaking level of fundraising by the Joyce Ivy alumnae's Pay It Forward campaign.
