Harvard University
  • Harvard’s motto, “Veritas,” means “truth” in latin.
  • Founded in 1636, Harvard College is older than calculus! Calculus was not offered at the institution when it was first founded because Calculus only emerged as a study in the late 1630s to 1640s.
  • Harvard has a generous financial aid program that has awarded over $160 million in grants to 60% of its students. 1 in 5 students at Harvard actually is receiving their education for free, and 100% of Harvard students graduate debt-free.
  • Eight presidents were graduates of Harvard: John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Rutherford Hayes, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama.
  • The average starting salary of a Harvard graduate is $60,000/year.
  • The Harvard Library System is the largest academic library in the world, with almost 19 million books as well as millions of photographs, manuscripts, and digital archives. There is even a 10-story library there that has four of its floors underground!
  • Harvard is home to 8,000 class courses, over 100 departments, and tons of opportunities to conduct research.
  • You are also allowed to create your own concentration (aka major) here, as well as pursue more than one concentration. This means that if you can dream it, you can do it! If Harvard does not have the program you are looking for, you can create it for yourself.
