Hi, I’m Kate Tayler and I am so incredibly excited to meet and get to know all of you lovely Joyce Ivy ladies!
I live in Monroe, Michigan. Currently, I’m a junior at Monroe High School. At my school, I’m a member of National Honor Society, I am involved in my school’s Interact Club, and I am the Video Editor for the school newspaper. I have also just finished my fifth cross country season.
My absolute favorite things in life are reading, writing, John Green (a life goal of mine is to meet him; I’ve come close, but never actually met him), and spending time with my friends and family.
This past summer, I was lucky enough to spend two weeks at Smith College for their Young Women’s Writing Program thanks to the Joyce Ivy Foundation. The two weeks I spent at Smith were undoubtedly the best two weeks of my life. I met some of the best people I’ll probably ever know, went on some fantastic adventures, and learned more about myself and my writing than ever before. I also fell in love with Smith itself and plan to apply there when it comes time.
I am unsure where the future will take me as of yet, but I plan on studying statistics and creative writing wherever I go.
I am so eager to be able to start repaying the Joyce Ivy Foundation for all they have given me and look forward to empowering the coming young ladies as the JIF has done for me.
