Susan L. Blount served as executive vice president and general counsel at Prudential Financial, Inc., responsible for the company’s 700 person global Law, Compliance, Business Ethics and External Affairs departments from 2005-2015. She was also a member of Prudential’s Office of the Chairman group and Senior Management Committee. Ms. Blount joined Prudential in 1985, and prior to being named General Counsel, she held a variety of leadership positions, including chief counsel for the Investment Division and vice president and secretary when the company demutualized in 2001.
Under Ms. Blount’s leadership, Prudential’s Law Department was recognized as one of the Most Innovative Law Departments by the Financial Times; an “Employer of Choice” by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association; a “Legal Department of the Year” by the New Jersey Law Journal; and the “Corporate Law Department of the Year” by the NJ Hispanic Bar Association. It also received special recognition by the New York City Bar Association’s Committee on the Recruitment and Retention.
Ms. Blount has been personally recognized by the National Law Journal as one of America’s 50 Outstanding General Counsel and has received recognition from such organizations as the National Association of Women Lawyers, National Organization for Women-NYC, the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, and the New Jersey Law & Empowerment Project.
