Scholarship Saturday: Hagan Scholarship

If you’re from the Midwest, there’s a good chance you live in a rural community, and if so, this is definitely a good scholarship to check out! The Hagan Scholarship Foundation (HSF) is specifically geared towards rural students looking to attend a four-year college. It’s a nationwide need-based merit scholarship for high-achieving students in need of financial assistance. I’ll give you the rundown on this fantastic opportunity below.

Description

The neat thing about the Hagan Scholarship is that it builds as you go through college, offering more rewards each year! Another cool thing to note is the HSF annual workshops required for all recipients to attend (travel and lodging are paid for).

This scholarship will help pay the unmet financial need of the recipient, up to $5,000 each semester. This amount can be increased in subsequent semesters to offset the expiration of other scholarships, awards, and grants, if needed.

During the fall semester of the second year of college each recipient gets a personal $10,000 Schwab Scholar Account - a system intended to provide recipients with the opportunity to learn firsthand how to invest and be financially responsible (this too is aided with HSF workshops).

During the fall semester of the third year of college each recipient achieving a 3.50 CGPA will be eligible for an all expense paid Study Abroad Award, up to $8,000!

During the fall semester of the fourth year of college, after establishing a personal Schwab Brokerage Account, each recipient will receive $1,000 to be used to start investing for their long term financial security.
