Books to Consider

Learning about the college admissions process is an active engagement that students and parents benefit from throughout the high school years. There are many print and online resources that provide an overview for preparing for college, applying to college and selecting a college.  The following list is a place to begin.

Questions and Admissions: Reflections on 100,000 Admissions Decisions at Stanford
(Jean H. Fetter, Stanford University Press)

The Game of Life: College Sports and Educational Values
(Schulman and Bowen, Princeton University Press)

(Loren Pope, Penguin Books)
The book that inspired the formation of the non-profit organization and group of colleges: CTCL. Loren Pope, a retired New York Times education editor and journalist, presents a diverse set of college options. (Hilary Masell Oswald built on Pope's original work with an updated and expanded version: Colleges That Change Lives: 40 Schools That Will Change the Way You Think About Colleges.) Both are excellent.
