Stars of Undergraduate Education

First, a note of caution: Approach any set of college rankings with a grain of salt (or a tablespoon.) There is debate about methodology, and debate about how useful (or harmful) it is to consider colleges in rank order. In my mind, two of the best things that can come out of perusing a set of rankings are exposure to a college you have not previously considered (or maybe even heard of) and gaining a new idea about a dimension of a college's strengths that is important to you.

There are many other institutions that offer fabulous undergraduate educations that are not on this list. My hope is that students, families, and counselors consider a wide range of options. The range of institutions of each of the lists above is notable, as is the fact that are located across the country. The Midwest seems to have had a particularly strong year claiming 6 out of 10 spots in the National Liberal Arts category. Half of the institutions in the National Universities category are Joyce Ivy Foundation partners, and even more than that have advised and championed our work.
