Introducing the Seventy-nine 2013 Summer Scholars

Announcing the SEVENTY-NINE 2013 Summer Scholars!

A few highlights from this application cycle and our 2013 group:
  • Record number of students from across the JIF-supported Midwestern states (including two of our new states, Minnesota and North Dakota)
  • Record number of Summer Scholars named: 79
  • 2013 Summer Scholars by state: 
    • Michigan: 36
    • Ohio: 24
    • Nebraska: 8
    • Missouri: 5
    • Minnesota: 3
    • North Dakota: 3
  • 69 different high schools represented in the group of 2013 Scholars
  • 41% rank first in their high school class (of those whose high schools provide rank)
  • 28% will be first generation in their family to attend a four-year college
  • 41% self-identified as students of color
  • 45% are receiving our highest need-based financial aid award level; 45% our mid-level need-based award, 10% our merit-based award
  • Inaugural Frank Minolli Engineering and Science Award recipients have been selected
  • Inaugural Mary Vandewiele Leadership Award recipient selected
  • Our first JIF Alumnae Supported Summer Scholar has also been announced
