The beautiful Duke University is ranked 8th by the US News and World Report. The most popular major is biology.  The student-faculty ratio is 8:1.  Duke's 14,850 graduate and undergraduate students are located in Durham, North Carolina. 


Here are some more fun facts about Duke University:



  • Duke's students are extremely school spirited, especially during games against their major rival: the University of North Carolina.

  • Duke’s nearly 9,000 acres include gardens, a forest, an endangered primate center, six libraries and a marine laboratory.

  • The actual university was not created until 1924; however, what became Trinity College (the arts and sciences college), was founded in 1859.

  • Durham has been recognized as the #1 Smartest City by Newsweek & The Daily Beast and as the #1 Foodiest Town by bon appétit.

  • Some distinguished alumni include Melinda Gates (of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation), Alana Beard (four time WNBA All-Star), and Kimberly Blackwell (pioneer in breast-cancer research).
