Fellow Friday: Elizabeth Keebler, JIF '15

Hometown: Livonia, Michigan
High School: Stevenson High School
Major(s): Biology/Chemistry/Psychology
Summer Program: Stanford High School Summer College
Courses: General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Greek Mythology

Why did you choose your summer program?

Stanford offered the most authentic college experience to high school students, and was the most different from my experiences as a dual enrollment student.

What is your favorite memory from your summer program?

Performing a dual mock trial for Medea (godly and modern human courts) in my Greek Mythology class and the incredibly nerdy and impassioned arguments that ensued.

Why did you decide to become a Fellow?

I want to help other students have the same incredible experience as I had at Stanford, and to give back to JIF some fraction of what it gave to me.

What do you like best about JIF?

Its friendly, unintimidating and unconceited atmosphere and boundless altruism.

How did JIF affect who/where you are today?

I feel much more secure about my future as a full-time college student, and have the confidence to apply to top universities that I never would have dreamed of applying to before my experience with JIF.

If you could give any advice to a potential JIF Scholar about anything regarding this experience, what would you say?

Listen to your mentors! This applies to JIF mentors, RAs, program directors, and anyone else who has once been where you are now. Adjustment to your new program can be a bit stressful, and it really helps to be prepared for the little quirks of your specific program that you wouldn't otherwise expect. For example, you need to purchase a printing card before you can print anything at Stanford, and you can't hold off on looking into one until the day you need to print your paper! (I ended up having to go to Kinko's!)
