College Spotlight: Cornell University


  • One of the eight Ivy League universities, Cornell University, is located in Ithaca, New York. Cornell educates about 21,850 students yearly.
  • Don’t let the Ivy League name fool you, Cornell happens to be the only public Ivy League school of the bunch.
  • Cornell offers 24 different Division I varsity sports that are cheered on by their mascot, Big Red Bear. Cornell’s colors are black, white, and carnelian.
  • If you find yourself bored at Cornell, you must be trying very hard to become bored as there are over 900 student organizations to take part in. With a selection like that, there is something for everyone. Cornell even has two secret honor societies.
  • It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a dragon? On Dragon Day at Cornell, first-year architecture students build a dragon and parade around campus with it before sending it off in flames as they burn it on the Arts Quad.
  • For music lovers out there, look no further than Cornell. Every year, Cornell hosts Slope Day which is a celebration of the final day of spring classes and is basically a huge concert. Celebrities such as Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Drake, Kanye West, Pussycat Dolls, and many other big names have performed there in the past.
  • Notable people to have attended Cornell include Bill Nye the Science Guy, Jane Lynch, Toni Morrison, Christopher Reeve (aka Superman), and former United States Attorney General, Janet Reno.
  • Cornell has a 14% acceptance rate, so to get in, you might want to have a GPA in the A range and a ACT score of 29 or higher.
