- Northwestern was founded in January 28, 1851 in Evanston, Illinois.
- Northwestern is home to a dozen colleges and schools across three campuses: a 240-acre campus in Evanston, a 25-acre campus in Chicago and a third campus in Doha, Qatar.
- Across Northwestern’s three campuses it has 21,000 enrolled students and 3,334 full-time faculty members.
- The university as of 2014 has a 12.9% acceptance rate and 90 percent of its undergraduate applicants rank in the top 10 percent of their high school classes.
- Northwestern’s National Merit Scholar enrollment rate is among the nation’s highest.
- It is a leading research university that is home to more than 90 school-based centers and more than two dozen University centers.
- Home of the wildcats, Northwestern has 19 intercollegiate athletic teams ranging from baseball to volleyball.
- It also has 500 student organizations and clubs ranging from the Happiness Club to Quidditch.
- Outside sports, clubs, organizations, and academics, Northwestern is known for its annual thirty-hour-long dance marathon, and the Dolphin Show.
- Northwestern is also known for the Rock. The Rock is a rock used by students to convey messages through paint.
- Northwestern annually has an Early Decision deadline of November 1st and a Regular Decision deadline of January 1st.
