  • It’s time to take this outta here. Let’s take it southwest, more specifically, 11 miles southwest of Philadelphia to Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, home of Swarthmore College. Swarthmore is a private liberal arts college that a little over 1,500 Swatties (Swarthmore students) call home.
  • Love is in the air! You might find your soulmate during your time at Swat. A study was conducted and found that about 15% of Swarthmore alumni end up marrying each other.
  • Watch out! Once every year, Swarthmore is attacked by pterodactyls to be fended off only by swift Swarthmore Swatties with foam bats! Fear not, however, for it is only a campus-wide day of fun, generously planned by the Psi Phi Club.
  • Swarthmore seems to be chock-full of annual traditions. Other than The Pterodactyl Hunt, Swat also hosts an annual Harry Potter-themed Yule Ball. The Yule Ball includes Quidditch lessons, foods from the series, and screenings of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
  • For those with an affinity for the outdoors, look no further than Swat. Swarthmore’s entire campus is located on an arboretum. There are over 4,000 different kinds of plants accenting the campus.
  • The transition from high school to college can definitely be a rough one and Swarthmore understands that. The first semester of a Swattie’s freshman year is graded only on a pass or fail basis to help ease the tricky change.
  • Notable people to have attended Swarthmore include psychologist, Carol Gilligan; former governor of Massachusetts, Michael Dukakis; and biologist, David Baltimore.
  • To nab a spot as a Swattie, you must know the facts. Swarthmore has a 17% admission rate and an average ACT score of a 32.
