Scholarship Saturday: Barnard College Scholarships

By: Amber Heard
As a student at Barnard, there are various ways you can finance your education. IMPORTANT: Incoming first year students are not eligible to apply for institutional aid after their admission decision. In order to receive aid, you must apply at the same time you apply for admission. Barnard only awards financial aid based on need, not on merit. Remember that is crucial to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to receive any sort of aid. For most top-tier schools, in addition to the FAFSA, you also need to submit the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Financial Aid Profile. Barnard expects all students to pay for part of their college expenses through loans or jobs. Below is a financial opportunity for incoming freshman:
Barnard Opportunity Program (BOP)
This program provides students outside New York with academic and financial support during their undergraduate experience. Free tutoring, mentoring, laptop, and workshops are few of the various perks BOP scholars receive. In order to be eligible for this wonderful program, you have to meet the following requirements:
  1. Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident and reside in a state other than New York
  2. Be 21 years of younger
  3. Have SAT Critical Reading of 620 or ACT English score of 24
  4. Demonstrate significant financial aid.

There is no separate application for this program. Students are nominated to participate. However, if you would like to be considered you can notify Office of Admissions. If selected, students will be called for an interview.

In addition to federal aid, students are encouraged to apply for outside scholarships. To learn more information about the financial aid at Barnard visit: http://barnard.edu/finaid
