As 2017 draws to a close, many of us view the time as an
opportunity to reflect on what we've accomplished and what we want to
accomplish in the upcoming year. Setting New Year's resolutions is as popular
as ever, and the tradition is a good way to set goals for your personal and
academic lives, whether that means submitting all of your college applications
or deciding to better your relationships with others. Whatever the case may be,
here are a few things to keep in mind.
- Set realistic and attainable goals. Your goal is something that you want to accomplish, and part of that means aspiring to something you can actually do before the year ends. Consider your priorities, abilities, and the resources you have to accomplish the goal.
- Keep a timeline in mind. If you want to accomplish something such as submitting all of your college, financial aid, and scholarship applications, keep deadlines and due dates in mind so you can allocate the proper time for completing each application. Use planners and checklists to keep yourself organized.
- Have fun and motivate yourself! You set goals for yourself because you want to reach them, not because you have to. Remind yourself that reaching your goal will help you become a better person, or will ultimately help you get into the school of your dreams. Make the most of any opportunities that will help you reach your goal, and do not give up easily!
